City and Waukesha County ED Corporation approve first Revolving Loan Fund project

In March of this year, the City of Brookfield initiated the Brookfield Development Loan Fund, a local Revolving Loan Fund (RLF), established to work in conjunction with the Waukesha County Economic Development Corporation’s existing RLF. On December 5, WCEDC and the City closed on the first joint project, a loan to Components Company, Inc. (CCI). The City of Brookfield and WCEDC are providing $150,000 in gap funding to the project.

Components Company Inc. is a 75 year old supplier to original equipment manufacturers in the medical equipment, industrial supply, agricultural and motorcycle markets, including Harley-Davidson. CCI will use the loan to purchase equipment, such as cable wire processing and auto bagging machines, improving efficiency and delivery times to their clients.

“This deal shows that the City of Brookfield and Waukesha County are committed to expanding businesses, especially given the challenging economic climate,” said Joe Wittig, President and CEO of CCI. “As a small business owner, I am glad to see that my own City and County are dedicated to helping me succeed and grow.”

The revolving loan funds are designed to assist small and medium sized businesses to grow and create jobs. As a result of these loan funds, CCI plans to add 5 positions over the next two years. “Components Company Inc. was one of the first companies in our Gateway West Commerce Center, ” noted Brookfield Mayor Steven Ponto. “They are a first-rate employer, and provide higher wage manufacturing jobs, with benefits, that are highly sought after in this challenging economy.”

“Located in the heart of Southeastern Wisconsin, the City of Brookfield is a community of choice for families and businesses and a premier sustainable place to live, work, shop, and play.”

MWTA Tour of Rexnord Industries

On Thursday, September 22nd, 2011, I toured Rexnord Industries Gear Group located at 3001 W. Canal Street in Milwaukee. The tour was interesting and informative, and was followed by a networking event at the Harley-Davidson Motor Restaurant.

Here’s an excerpt from Rexnord’s website describing their company:

“Rexnord® is a leading worldwide industrial company comprised of two strategic platforms: Process & Motion Control and Water Management. Within our platforms, we serve a diverse array of growing, global end markets with the broadest, most reliable product portfolios and trusted brands in our industries, backed by thousands of associates that share a common goal: providing superior customer satisfaction. ”

“Within Process & Motion Control, we design, manufacture, market and service specified, highly engineered mechanical components used within complex systems where our customers’ reliability requirements and the cost of failure or downtime is extremely high.”

“Within Water Management, we design, procure, manufacture and market products that provide and enhance water quality, safety, flow control and conservation where external agencies, engineering and design firms, municipalities and owners specify our products due to performance, life cycle and project cost, and our service levels.”

Waukesha County Business Alliance

I attended a “Sales Club” meeting of Waukesha County Business Alliance on 9/2/10.  The Waukesha County Business Alliance was formerly called the Waukesha County Chamber of Commerce, and recently changed their name to better reflect their mission.  The event began with networking in the lobby of the Country Springs Inn, and then a breakfast meeting at tables of 10.  Each one at the table had a few minutes to introduce themselves and their company, and hand out business cards.  Then, there was a presentation by Widmann & Company on their CPA firm, along with sales strategies.  It was very informative and I was able to meet many new people.
